Corporate Social Impact Association Survey Revealed 77% of Companies Reported Increased Workplace Volunteerism in 2024

Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP) Survey of 125 Major Companies Shows Corporate Workplace Volunteerism Rates Continue to Rise Annually Since Pandemic

WASHINGTON, DC – Ahead of National Volunteer Week, survey data from the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP)—the nation’s leading advocate for corporate social impact professionals—revealed that workplace volunteering continues to be on the rise. According to the findings, 77% of companies reported an increase in employee participation in volunteer opportunities in 2024.

The data, drawn from ACCP’s 2024 CSR Insights Survey, reflected a notable 16% increase from 2023, when only 61% of companies reported a rise in employee volunteerism. This upward trend underscores employees’ growing interest in opportunities to give back to their community.  These initiatives foster strong connections among colleagues, align employee and corporate values, and result in greater employee satisfaction.

“Today’s workplace is a powerful platform for employees to give back and support their communities,” said Andrea Wood, president and CEO of the Association of Corporate Citizenship Professionals (ACCP). “Companies with strong giving and volunteer programs have a clear edge in attracting and retaining purpose-driven talent. Survey data consistently shows that employees who volunteer report higher job satisfaction and a stronger connection to their employer. Volunteerism isn’t just a nice-to-have—it’s a strategic tool for engagement, retention, and building a purpose-centered culture.”

One of the ACCP survey’s key findings is that employee engagement budgets either increased or remained the same in 2024, according to 88% of respondents—up from 71% in 2023. Additionally, 22% of respondents reported rising expectations from employees to have a voice in CSR decisions, compared to 18% in 2023.

ACCP was featured in an Inc. article, entitled “It’s a Great Time for Giving Back. But Don’t Leave Out Remote Workers,” highlighting insights from their team of experts underscoring the continued importance of virtual volunteering opportunities. The piece outlines how “companies offer options ranging from remote tutoring sessions for high school students to working on a collective digital project, such as mapping areas susceptible to natural disasters”. It further notes that “with those key factors established, company leaders can work with their employees to figure out the right cadence for these opportunities.” The insights are supported by ACCP’s  2024 CSR Insights Survey—now in its fifth year—which gathered data from 125 companies representing more than $1 billion in community investments.
