Meet Cecilia Render
Executive Director
Nordson Corporation Foundation
How did you first hear about ACCP? Why did you join?
Curt Weeden presented at our regional conference early on in the development of ACCP. I was relatively new to my position, and a funder from one of the local law firms said that it would be a great opportunity for me to learn the field. I attended Forum that year (2007) and have never looked back. ACCP was then, and continues to be, the best resource for me in my role as Executive Director of a Foundation.
What do you wish those outside the field knew about CSR?
That it is not an easy job. Outsiders think that all we do is give away money and plan fun employee events. They do not understand what it takes to assess grant applications, impact employee engagement, be the face of the corporation in the community, and all the other responsibilities that somehow find their way onto our desks.
What piece of advice would you give someone new to the field of CSR, or considering entering the field?
Be open minded, be kind, listen, learn and always be a partner, not a funder.
What’s a favorite quote?
“Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.” – Arthur Ashe
If you had to describe yourself using three words, what would they be?
Friendly, inquisitive, introspective.
